Mr.Mansoor Khan, who has had an impressive academic and techno-savvy credentials (IIT – Mumbai, Cornell University, MIT – Boston) , developedhis talk by examining the co-relationship between the compulsions of economic growth and the limits placed on it by Nature. Through a series of related facts and statistics, he sought to establish that economic growth cannot be physically limitless as it has been necessarily co-related to the availability of energy which alone can drive growth. He drew pointed attention to the global economic collapse of 2008 to establish the basic point he was making – growth cannot be perpetual, and the solution lies in accepting this basic fact so as to modify the aspirations and demands to a more pragmatic level through a combination of community level and governmental actions.
The thought provoking talk was well received by a receptive audience. Several leading questions were asked which Mr.Mansoor Khan answered with clarity and wit. The session was chaired and moderated by Mr. Vijay Padaki whose insightful observations enriched the interactive session.
