Bangalore International Centre had arranged the screening of the documentary film “The Only Real Game” directed byMs. Mirra Bank, who was present to interact with the audience. The film was screened on Thursday, 7th November. 2013 at 6.00 PM
This evocative film explored the power of baseball for people in in Manipur, infested, as it is, with unemployment. Mirra Bank brought out as to who the introduction of baseball has led to a subtle change in the attitudes and approaches in this deeply patriarchal society in which women have become a driving cultural force. The women of Manipur find unity and hope in baseball – as well as a bridge to the wider world. Manipur’s women and girls come out as dedicated and talented players, who are also at the forefront of peace and justice initiatives. The film also outlined the process of change which came about when First Pitch, a small group of baseball-loving New Yorkers, and two Major League Baseball Envoy coaches teamed up with Manipuri men, women and kids to “Play Ball.”
A large, appreciative audience actively interacted with Mirra bank after the screening was over.
