Bangalore International Centre had arranged a presentation on “The Internet and Controls : A Disturbing Scenario” by Prof. Mohan SundaraRajan onFriday, 7th March, 2014 at 6.30 PM.Mr. Sunil Abraham, Executive Director, Centre for Internet and Society, Bangalorechaired and moderated the discussion.
In an illuminating presentation Prof. Mohan Sundarajan began with a nontechnical review of the origin and development of the technologies that have led to the Internet and then talked about the current trends that tend to change the Internet as we know it. The presentation highlighted the impact of recent policies of countries such as the United States, India and China, as well as the growing menace of hacking on individual liberties and the right to privacy. It was his contention that attempts to curtail the internet or to impose any kind of censorship are counter-productive.
Mr. Sunil Abraham added his experiences about Internet which broadened the discussions.
