Bangalore International Centre had arranged a Talk on “Investing in Girls” by Ms. Halimatou Hima, on Tuesday, 6th August, 2013 at 6:30 pm. The talk was moderated by Mrs. Sreelakshmi Gururaja.
Halimatou Hima, who hails from Niger, spoke about investing in girls. She worked throughout the African nation of Niger to give people – especially women and girls– the means to empower themselves and the opportunity to achieve their highest potential.
Today, she is one of Africa’s 25 top emerging women, yet to reach to that destination, she embarked on a long journey filled with countless challenges and stumbling blocks. Nonetheless, she kept ‘walking’ in search for knowledge with humility and purpose.
In her stimulating talk, delivered with telling simplicity, Halima told her own story. It was her parents who instilled in her the passion for education and how it can transform the lives of those who are marginalized and neglected. She steadily worked her way through, acquiring knowledge and wisdom and has dedicated her life now to promote education and livelihood among countless girls and women to help them to improve their quality of life.
Sreelakshmi Gururaja, who chaired and moderated the interactive session, contributed substantially to the quality of the session through her perceptive observations.
