Bangalore International Centre had arranged the screening of the documentary film “Silent Screams” directed byMs. Priya Somiah Alva on Saturday, 30th, November. 2013 at 6.30 PM. Ms. Namita Bhandare, Journalist& Ms. Manira Alva Pinto Scriptwriter of the film were present to interact with the audience for a Q & A session after the screening.
“Silent Screams” - India's Fight Against Rape is a 45-minute documentary that begins with the gang-rape and subsequent death of a young medical student on December 16 in New Delhi. Produced by Miditech Pvt. Ltd. For Channel News Asia.
This film was a searing indictment ofthe brutality of that crime led to widespread street protests demanding stricter laws against sexual violence.
Through the story of three rapes -- the Delhi December gang-rape, another in rural Haryana and a third that came to be known as the 'Park Street' rape -- the film explored how and why justice eludes victims. It looked at inherent biases within society and the police and asked what can be done to change this.
A large, appreciative audience actively interacted with Namita Bhandare and Manira Alva after the screening was over.
