Bangalore Bangalore International Centre had arranged screening of two films - a documentary film “Santhara ” directed by Prof. Shekhar Hattangadi and a feature film “Teen Behenein” directed by Mr. Kundan Shah & Prof. Shekhar Hattangadi on Tuesday, 16th June 2015 at 5.30 PM. Prof. Shekhar Hattangadi was present to interact with the audience for a Q & A session after the screening.
The documentary film Santara has bagged Best Script Award in the recently held 4th Bangalore Short Film Festival 2015. This film explores the dimensions of the law-religion conflict by focusing on the spiritual, ethical, medico-legal and sociological aspects of the controversial Jain practice of Santhara, in which a person gives up food and drink after taking a vow of abstinence, resulting in death by starvation. .
The feature film “Teen Behenein” is about the ill dowry system existing. There are many tragic news stories of multiple suicides by sisters in India due to dowry. Teen Behenein makes three such sisters its protagonists, and weaves a fictional story around the real-life incident in which they took their own lives.
A large, appreciative audience interacted with Prof. Shekhar Hattangadi after the screening was over.
