Talk on "Rising Asia, Anxious Europe: The Problem of Security" by Dr. Veena Ravikumar

Held on Friday, 22nd June, 2012 at 6:30 pm

Bangalore International Centre had arranged a Talk on “Rising Asia, Anxious Europe: The Problem of Security” by Dr. Veena Ravikumar, Senior Faculty, Deptt of Political Science, Lady Shri Ram College, New Delhi, on Friday, 22nd June, 2012 at 6:30 pm. The talk was moderated by Ambassador C V Ranganathan, IFS (Retd), Former Indian Ambassador to China, Ethiopia and France.

In her talk, Dr. Ravikumar highlighted the dramatic decline in the political system in the Western world in the wake of the recent spells of recession, domestic upheavals and the looming threat perceptions to their economy from the meteoric rise of two Asian giants- China and India, both of which have become nuclear powers with formidable economic and political clouts. She stressed that in the changed context, both European countries and the Asian powers would need to redefine their equations and relationships so as to remain relevant.

The extremely interesting talk was enlivened by a spirited interactive session, adroitly moderated and steered by Ambassador Ranganathan.
