Bangalore International Centre had arranged a Book Release –cum- Discussion on the book “Patent and Trade Disparities in Developing Countries” authored by Prof. Srividhya Ragavan, Professor of Law, University of Oklahoma College of Law, on Monday, 19th November, 2012 at 6:30 pm. The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. David J Gainer, Public Affairs Officer, U.S. Consulate General Chennai.
In a thought-provoking analysis of the current practices and patterns in the area of Intellectual Property Rights, Prof. Srividhya indicated as to how the developed world, particularly the USA, has become fiercely protective about even the minutest intricacies in product patents and how that has acted often as an inhibiting factor in the growth of innovations in the developing countries. As a result, many of the developing countries like India have gone if for process patents which in any case have a limited life.
The interactive session was both lively and informative.
