Bangalore International Centre had arranged a panel discussion on “Management of Electoral Rolls” on Friday 31st July, 2015 at 6.30 PM at its Auditorium. Detailed presentation on the subject was made by Cdr P G Bhat. The other Panelists present were Dr. A Ravindra and Mr. N C Muniyappa.
In his presentation Cdr. Bhat explained that about the mammoth task of Management of Electoral Rolls in India. It is not uncommon that several people are unable to vote because their names are missing from the rolls. Equally, there are mistakes, mutilations and duplication of names. Online registration has also error-prone.
Cdr. Bhat who has been analysing the contents and processes of Electoral Roll Management System of Election Commission and a few Chief Electoral Officers (CEO) of States and Union Territories during the last 5 years explained about the software tools he has developed for analysis and correction of errors in electoral rolls and has offered to share them with the Election Commission. He has also pursued the matter with various authorities with little success.
Cdr Bhat discussed the major quality issues with the electoral roll management system from software and operational perspective. He also suggested some solutions to some of them based on his work.
Dr. A Ravindra and Mr. N C Muniyappa also shared their experiences about the Management of Electoral Rolls.
