Bangalore International Centre had arranged the screening of the documentary film “Our Metropolis” directed by Gautam Sonti and Usha Rao. The directors were present to interact with the audience. The film was screened on Friday 13th November 2015 at 6.00 PM.
The film comments on the ways in which the ‘global city’ ideal is used to transform the city to benefit global business players, leaving little space for residents to shape its future. The manner of depiction through telling images was simple and effective. The audience empathized with the victims of bureaucratic ham-handedness and callousness of the authorities. The consensus of opinion during the interactive session was that while developmental initiatives cannot be clouded with nostalgia about the past, all such initiatives should be truly participative in a manner which really ensures the “greatest good of the greatest number”.
