Bangalore International Centre had arranged an event viz., “An evening of Poetry” by Mr. Carlos Reyes, American Poet and Translator, on Friday, 21st October, 2011 at 6:30 pm. The event was chaired and moderated by Mr. Abhijit Sengupta, Former Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, Member of the Central Advisory Board on Culture and of the Governing Body of Kalakshetra, Chennai.
Several poetry lovers and poets from Bangalore had joined the members of the Centre in the first-ever poetry-reading event in the Centre.
Mr. Carlos Reyes prefaced his reading session by talking about his impressions of Bangalore, and of India, and how he was fascinated by the country. His recital of his own poems thereafter brought out the mellow mood and touch with which he dwelt on his subjects, full of sensual and sensory qualities. During the interactive session, the members of the audience shared their own views about the characteristics of Indian poets writing in English. Mr. Abhijit Sengupta, who moderated the session with erudition and skill, recited one poem of Mr. Reyes (to his great delight) while introducing him.
