>Book Discussion of "The Mavericks of Mussoorie - Life in the Corridors of Power" authored by Dr. M Ramachandran

Held on Wed, 28th February, 2018 at 6.30 PM

Bangalore International Centre had organised the Book discussion of "The Mavericks of Mussoorie: Life in the corridors of power” authored by M Ramachandran on Wednesday, 28th February, 2018 at 6.30 PM. Hariprasad Hegde and Gen. K Nagaraj were in conversation with the author. V Ravichandar chaired and moderated the event.

In a fairly interesting discussion, the panelists sought to know from Mr. Ramachandran about his motivation to write this book, his views on the extent of the ability of IAS officers to influence policy decisions, whether “generalist” administrators are an anachronism in an age of specialisation, the relationship between administrators and politicians, corruption and a host of other issues relating to the IAS. Mr. Ramachandran defended the concept of generalist administrators for their breadth of vision, as opposed to the narrow views of specialists, felt that a harmonious relationship between politicians and administrators was essential in a democratic and welfare state, and that it was there by and large, stressed that the virus of corruption was there in every sphere, be it legislature or executive or judiciary, but such instances were always by way of exception, and not as a rule; and that the administrators do contribute substantially to the decision-making process..

The witty exchanges between the panelists and Mr. Ramachandran, all in good humour were appreciated by the audience.
