Bangalore International Centre had arranged screening of a documentary film “Lila”, on Leela Naidu the famous yesteryear actress on Friday, 30 th October, 2009 at 6.00 PM at its auditorium. Directed by independent film makers Bidisha Roy Das and Priyanjana Dutta, the film depicted Leela as she saw herself and in her own words.
In a moving introduction about how she conceived of this film, Bidisha recalled her long association with the strikingly beautiful actress in her later days when she was alone and more or less confined to her flat in Bombay. As Bidisha reminisced, Leela never lost her spirit in spite of facing several set-backs in her personal life and remained all along a vivacious and articulate conversationalist. So, Bidisha decided to film her as she talked and let her talk about her own life and her contemporaries.
The ultimate outcome – “Lila” is a remarkable documentary in which one can clearly see the outline of an uninhibited and spirited personality who faced life as it came – both in joy and sorrow – without getting either overwhelmed or morose.
The jampacked audience enjoyed the film and the lively interactive session with Bidisha and Priyanjana after the screening was over.
