Bangalore International Centre had arranged a conversation around the book “Last Frontiers of the Mind – Challenges of the Digital Age” authored by Late A Mohandas Moses on Saturday, 21st February, 2015 at 6.00 PM. Dr. Sanjeev Jain, Professor of Psychiatry, NIMHANS, Dr. Mukund Thattai, NCBS and Mrs. Achala Moulike Moses, former Education Secretary, GOI, were in conversation about the book.
In this original and brilliantly written book, Mohandas Moses, a multifaceted former member of IAS, dwelt on a daring theme – the challenge of the artificial intelligence to the human mind and human creativity. The mind, the greatest invention in the Universe which has created the greatest works of art and science, Mr. Moses apprehended was soon going to be challenged by the machines created by us.
Both Dr. Mukund Thattai and Dr. Sanjeev Jain, who were in conversation, pointed out that Mr. Moses made a deep study of the works done by a large number of scientists, researchers and philosophers, and raised an issue at a time when very few people thought about it. This has now become an extremely relevant and much debated issue. Dr. Thattai, while acknowledging the apprehension, felt that human mind still has enough capacity to ensure that it does not become a slave to technology. Dr. Sanjeev Jain was less optimistic than him. He felt that the doomsday may not be imminent, but the time for a serious debate on this issue in all its facets is right NOW.
It was a fascinating and insightful event in which the audience interacted with the speakers with great interest.
