On the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami, Bangalore International Centre had arranged a Carnatic Vocal Concert by Smt. SubhaSampath, on Friday, 10th August, 2012 at 6:30 pm. She was accompanied by Smt. PremaVivek on the Violin and Sri M. R. Sainath on the Mridanga.
The theme of the concert was to experience the different facets of Lord Krishna through selected compositions in multiple languages, imbued with a sense of true devotion.
The following compositions were presented.
A varnam, vanajaaksha, in raga Behaag
Viruttam followed by Govardhanagireesham, a composition of Sri MuthuswamyDikshitar in raga Hindolam set to Rupakatala, followed by kalpanaswaras.
Bandaneneranga, a Purandaradevaranama in raga Madhuvanti
A song from Saint Tyagaraja’sNaukachartiram – chaluchalu nee in the raga Saveri set to MisraChaputala. Also explained the story of Naukacharitram, followed by raga alapana, kalpanaswaras and taniavartana.
A sloka on Lord Krishna followed by a song in the raga Brindavanasaranga – brindavanavihari, in Aditala.
A ragamalika composition in Malayalam, composed by Sri PoonthanamNamboodiri of Kerala, in praise of Lord Guruvayurappan.
Teeradhavilayaatupillai – a ragamalika composition in Tamil by SubramaniaBharathi, set to tisragati.
A Marathi Abhang in raga Maand of Saint Tukaram in praise of Lord Panduranga of Pandharipur.
A Meerabhajan in raga DarbariKanada – hari tum harojankipir.
Finally a tillana in Hindi by Sri Swati Tirunal in raga Dhanashree.
