Bangalore International had arranged a unique programme under its Karnataka: Vibrant and Diverse Series- “Khanjira- The Naada Chakra” by Vidwan Sri. Amrit N. and accompanists on Rhythm Pads, Morching and Violin, on Friday, 3rd June, 2011 at 6:30 pm.
Shri. Amrit started the performance with a composition “Mahaa Ganapathim” in Raaga- Naata and Taala- Eka, in praise of Lord Ganesha. He then gave a Lec Dem about the history of the Khanjira and its reference in Indian ancient texts like Bharata’s “Naatya Shaastra” and Ahobala’s “Sangeeta Paarijaata. He also referred to various other instruments which are similar to Khanjira in Indian Folk Music, and explained about the usage of Khanjira in Carnatic Music.
Shri. Amrit, demonstrated how Khanjira can be blended with Spanish Guitar Music, Western Symphony Music and also in Contemporary Music Style. He played a percussion ensemble in Carnatic style in Raaga Kalyani set to Aadi Taala. He also enthralled the audience by playing individual percussion rounds and a detailed percussion round, displaying all the technical aspects. He ended the performance with a concert presentation with the other percussions.
The audience thoroughly enjoyed the concert. It was a treat for the lovers of classical music.
