various themes have been adapted as attakathas from the World Classics and The Bible. He also talked about the influence of Shakespeare in Kathakali, various works that has been attempted by various Gurus and stalwarts in Kathakali including his own experience in working on Lady Macbeth and Cleopatra and choreographing them in the traditional Kathakali idiom. In his lucid exposition, Mr. Gupta demonstrated as to how evocative and relevant musical sc ores, accompanying the mudras and abhinaya, bring out the subtleties and meanings of the emotions found in the poetry and prose of Shakesperean dramas through the medium of Kathakali. He regretted the fact that Kathakali is increasingly becoming less popular amongst the present generation.
The performance was well-attended and appreciated.
