Bangalore International Centre had arranged an Illustratedtalk/Presentation on“Indian Paper Money – A Journey through the Ages” by Mr. RezwanRazack, Managing Director, Prestige Group and Collector of Old Indian Bank Notes on Thursday, 23rd February, , 2017 at 6.30 PM. Mr. V Ravichandar, Chairman Feedback Consulting, Bangalore chaired and moderated the session.
The talk, supported by an audio-visual presentation, was based on the journey of Indian Paper Money from 1809 till the present day, which included paper money issued and circulated by the three colonies - The British, The French and the Portuguese who colonised India, the early banknotes of India and the Presidency Banks, the banknotes of Princely States of Kashmir and Hyderabad, the Prisoners of War Coupons and Cash Coupons used by the Princely States, Indian money used in Burma and Pakistan, Indian banknotes used for circulation in Persian Gulf countries and notes used by Haj Pilgrims.
During the interactive session, it also came out that the first demonetisation move in the country under the British colonial regime was occasioned by the demonetisation of British Pound Sterling in the wake of the Second World War and the consequent shortage of metal. Mr.Rezwan also displayed from his personal collection several old Indian Notes, including one of Rs.10,000/- and one of Rs.250/-.
The appreciative audience enjoyed several informations about the journey of the Indian Rupee from the early 19th Century.
