Bangalore International Centre had arranged a “Hindustani Vocal Recital” by Ms. PriyaPurushothaman on Friday, 24th August, 2012 at 6:30 pm. She was accompanied by Sri VyasmurtiKatti on the harmonium and Sri GurumurthyVaidya on the tabla .
The evening featured classic ragas of the monsoon season. Priya began with raagMiyanMalhar, first with a traditional vilambit composition "TuGaja So AayaBanra" in Tilwada, followed by "Kaari re badariya," drut in EkTaal. The drutbandish is a composition of the late PanditDinkarKaikini, of the Agra gharana.
She continued with raag Des Malhar, presenting two bandishes in Teen taal, also compositions of PanditDinkarKaikini. The first was "Kaarikaarikaarighatachhaayi," and "Chalsakhiyan mil jhule." Priya concluded the concert with a kajri, a semi-classical piece in Mishra Pilu by SmtShobhaGurtu.The concert was very well received by the audience, who appreciated the style of rendition, the sweetness of the voice, and the variety of compositions presented.
