Bangalore International Centre had arranged an Illustrated Talk on “Heritage Imagineering” on Saturday, 10 th April, 2010 at 6.30 PM by Mr. Ramachandra Budihal, a software architect at Wipro Technologies. The interactive session was moderated by Mr. Chiranjeev Singh, former Addl. Chief Secretary, and Government of Karnataka.
In a fascinating exposition, with the help of a video presentation, Mr. Budihal demonstrated how the evolution of cutting-edge technology can assist the conservation of heritage monuments and art from the marauding desecrations caused by mass tourism. The select audience, present during the talk, heard Mr. Budihal with rapt attention as he explained about the technology, which he termed as “E3iT”, and which becomes a virtual “time machine” with the help of 3D and haptic-response system. The video screened by him showed how with a touché screen and head-mounted display people can “walk” through the ancient city of Hampi, can event meet the mighty emperor Krishnadeva Raya and obtain blessings from him!
The interactive session which followed brought out more elucidations and clarifications about the technology and there was a general consensus that this could indeed be of great help to preserve and conserve our golden past.
