Bangalore International Centre had arranged an illustrated talk on “Greening of Bangalore” by Mr. Vijay R Thiruvady, on Friday, 24th April, 2015 at 6.30 PM.
Mr. Thiruvady in his illustrated presentation stressed that Bangalore is home to a large variety of trees, plants and shrubs. Although many trees have been cut down for widening of roads and real estate development, Bangalore is still blessed with large planted areas thanks to the Defence Establishments, Public Sector Enterprises and of course Lalbagh and Cubbon Parks.
He traced the greening of Bangalore from early days and talked about individuals and institutions involved in the development of Bangalore as a Garden City.
He also showed the pictures of some of the heritage trees in and around Bangalore and explained their historical background.
He informed that Bangalore Environment Trust is trying to mobilise with the Government departments and planting of trees in and around Bangalore wherever possible.
The Q & A session after the talk was informative and interesting.
