Bangalore International Centre, had arranged a Book Discussion of his book“FORGED IN CRISIS- India and the United States since 1947”by Dr.RudraChaudhuri, Senior Lecturer (South Asian Security & Strategic Studies), Department of War Studies and the India Institute, King’s College London on 02nd May, 2014 at 6.30 PM. Mr.Aakar Patel, Author and senior journalist chaired and moderated the discussion.
In an insightful talk, Dr.RudhaChaudhuri outlined the basic contours of the Indo-American policy from 1947 onwards to stress that the world vision of both the countries were based on their perception of their own enlightened self-interest, tempered with genuine understanding about the imperatives which dictated the foreign policies of each other. There were periods of misunderstanding, just as there were periods of appreciation, but the general strand of common bonds remained all the time. Through interesting, and often light hearted anecdotes, Dr.Chaudhuri talked about the negotiating styles and stellar roles played by bureaucrats and interlocutors in both the countries in shaping their foreign relations.
The fantastic talk was hugely appreciated by a large audience which took a lively part in the interactive session.
