Bangalore International Centre had arranged a Carnatic vocal concert "Carnatic Compositions on Devis", by Ms. Ramya Sarika and her accompanists on 19th December, 2014 at 6:30 pm at its auditorium.
Compositions on Indian Goddesses by different composers hold a special abode in Carnatic Music for their lyrical intricacy, splendor and omnipotence. The pre-trinity, the Trinity as well as the post-trinity composers have created some of the magnificent gems including the supreme Navaratri and Navavarana kritis. Devi is worshipped as forms of Sarasvathi, Lakshmi and Durga. The variety that Devi compositions present in Carnatic Music is extensive and one finds solace in rendering them.
This performance by Ms. Ramya Sarika was an attempt towards introducing the audiences to both the much-heard and less-heard compositions on Godesses by various composers in different languages. A range of supremely intricate, divine and enjoyable compositional forms were presented in different ragas by Ramya Sarika during her performance.
