Talk on The Devadasi heritage of South India" by Smt. Lakshmi Viswanathan

Bangalore International Centre in association with Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts (IGNCA) had arranged a talk on “The Devadasi heritage of South India” by Smt. Lakshmi Viswanathan, Bharatanatyam Exponent, Author & Choreographer and Performing Artist at BIC on Saturday, 8th November 2014 at 6.30 PM.

Lakshmi Vishwanathan, dancer and scholar in her lecture spoke about the Devadasi Heritage of South India based on her book "WOMEN OF PRIDE" ( Roli books). She has done extensive research on the subject and has interacted with the last of the Devadasis of Tamil Nadu. She threw light on the subject with some authority, and enthused her audience with historical facts, anecdotes and fascinating details. From her repertoire of dances, she demonstrated the subtle magic of Padams and Javalis composed in a bygone era.
A large, appreciative audience actively interacted with Smt. Lakshmi Viswanathan after the talk.
