Bangalore International Centre, had arranged a Poetry Reading from her book “Crossing Black Waters” by Poet Athena Kashyap on Friday, 29th November, 2013 at 6.30 PM. Mrs.Shoba Narayan, Eminent Writer and Columnist chaired and moderated the discussion.
Ms. Athena Kashyap recited selected poems from her book after which there was an interaction byMs.Shoba Narayan with the poet. In her thoughtful observations, Ms.Shoba delineated as to how poems are relevant for every age and how Ms. Athena has so beautifully expressed her emotions.
Explaining the background of her poems, Athena mentioned that Crossing Black Waters is a series of inter-connected poems exploring borders and crossings. Through a family's personal odyssey from their violent upheaval during the Partition of India in 1947 to emigrating to the U.S., she tried to delve in her poems into loss and its aftermath--loss of a father, loss of home, the psychological impact of leaving behind a past that kept "pulsating behind swinging shutters of thought".
All the poems recited by her had that touch of nostalgia which the audience found very touching.
There was a lively interaction with audience after the poetry reading.
