Bangalore International Centre had arranged a very interesting event viz., Lecture Demonstration on “ Compositional Aesthetics in Hindustani Raagsangeet” by AditiKaikiniUpadhya on Friday, 4th January, 2013 at its auditorium. She was accompanied by Sri GurumurthyVaidya on tabla, Sri VyasmurtiKatti on harmonium, and MeghanaVenkatesh and PriyaPurushothaman on tanpura.
In her lecture, she detailed the key components of a Hindustani composition - swara, laya, taal, chhand and ras. She demonstrated how these come together to create evocative compositions. Her demonstration of this idea was shown in dhrupad, dhamar, khayal, tarana, hori, kajari, tappa and bhajan. She addressed many questions from the audience on a wide range of topics from contemporary performance practices and amplification in classical music concerts.
The programme was well attended and it was appreciated by one and all.
