Screening of a documentary film "Chirebandi"

Bangalore International Centre had arranged the screening of a documentary film on Mahesh Elkunchwar “Chirebandi” directed by Mohit Takalkar on Thursday, 21st September, 2017 at 6.00 PM.
‘Chirebandi’ (A Chiseled Stone) is a 90 minute biographical film produced and commissioned by the Sahitya Akademi, on one of the most prolific playwrights in India, Mahesh Elkunchwar. It is an attempt to understand him as a person, demystify his writing process and provide a window for the audience to have a sneak peek into the life of this extraordinary person.
Chirebandi is a multi-layered film featuring the playwright himself, archival footage and interviews presenting a thoughtful and creative film biography/essay on Mahesh Elkunchwar. It narrates the story of a relentlessly creative spirit at work and of how Elkunchwar, raised in Vidarbha, Maharashtra became one of today’s most important and multi-faceted playwrights. At its core the film explores the mystery of creativity, its sources and Elkunchwar's compelling plays that are set against the social, moral, self and the pressing concerns of our times.
At heart, Chirebandi explores Elkunchwar’s relentless struggle to find a creative expression for deep and fundamental truths, and through the power and intimacy of live theater, vivid characters and rich dialogue, provide a national dialogue to understand his theater that is fresh and new having the power to influence and impact audiences of all ages.
