Bangalore International Centre had arranged a Talk on “Children, Citizenship and Governance” by Ms. Nandana Reddy, Trade Unionist and Political Activist, on Friday, 16th November, 2012 at 6:30 pm. The talk was moderated by Ms. Ammu Joseph, Independent Journalist and Author.
Nandana Reddy spoke with rare empathy about the way children can cut through the shibboleths in which adults get often enmeshed and pinpoint with accuracy the issues of governance which touch their lives. The telling experiments in Northern Karnataka where children in rural areas have their own Panchayats to interact with the Gram Sabhas serve as the shining examples about the manner in which children can be involved with local governance issues. This in turn helps them to assume greater responsibilities as citizens in their later years.
It was a fascinating talk with lots of food for thought for adults.
