Bangalore International Centre had organised Panel Discussion on the Union Budget 2016-17 on Wednesday, 2nd March, 2016 at 6.00 PM. The Panelists were Prof. Gita Sen, Distinguished Professor and Director of the Ramalingaswami Centre on Equity and Social Determinants of Health at the Public Health Foundation of India, Prof. Charan Singh, RBI Chair Professor of Economics, Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, Dr. Narendar Pani, Professor, Anchor, Conflict Resolution Programme and Anchor, RBI Programme on Interdisciplinary Approaches to Economic Issues, NIAS and Mr. Siddharth Raja, Partner, Samvad Partners, Advocates. Dr. M Govinda Rao, Former Member, 14th Finance Commission & Emeritus Professor, National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, chaired and moderated the discussion. By and large, the erudite panelists were agreed that the budget had admirable intents which could not be faulted. At the same time, there were several grey areas in the agriculture and social sectors with no clear implementation strategy which made the budget a mixed bag.
