Bangalore International Centre had arranged a Hindustani Classical Vocal Recital “Remembering Begum Akhtar: A musical tribute to the legend" by Radhika Joshi Ray on Saturday, 19th March, 2016 at 6.00 PM at its auditorium. She was accompanied by Mr. Sagar Bharatraj on tabla and Mr. Ashwin S Walwalkar on harmonium.
Even a century after she was born, Begum Akhtar continues to live on in the hearts of listeners through her soulful music and powerful voice. From a stage actress to a movie star, and then a classical vocalist, she transcended several roles before she was conferred the title Mallika-e-ghazal. This concert was a tribute to her musical genius. Radhika Joshi Ray presented a collection of her famous thumris, dadras and ghazals with a few anecdotes of her childhood experiences, musical training and journey to stardom. Radhika’s mellifluous rendering of the songs with adroit interspersing of anecdotes made it a memorable evening for those who were present.
