Bangalore International Centre on the occasion of International Women’s Day had arranged a Book reading-cum-discussion on the book “Beautiful Thing” authored by Ms. Sonia Faleiro on Tuesday, 8th March, 2011 at 6:30 pm. at its auditorium. The discussion was moderated by Mr. Aditya Sondhi, Practising Lawyer and Law Teacher.
The book is a non-fiction account of the Bar dancers of Bombay. It is a very hard-hitting, first hand account on the issue. Ms. Sonia read a few pages from the book for the audience at BIC and did complete justice to it as she brought the characters of the book alive. She also recounted her experience while researching and recording the facts which form the basis of her absorbing book.
Mr. Sondhi also read few lines from the book and said that Sonia had captured a world many refuse to acknowledge and shown it in a delicate, non- judgemental and touching way. He added that this story is warm, funny, tender and absolutely heart-breaking in parts. It gives the reader a rare glimpse about the unspoken world.
The audience applauded for the author for her research, considering the complexity of the subject, which demanded a lot of courage.
