Bangalore Bangalore International Centre in collaboration with Takshashila Institution and Pune International Centre had arranged a thought-provoking Panel Discussion on “A vision and roadmap document for India for the future” on Friday, 17th October, 2014 at 6.30 PM at its auditorium. Dr. Vijay Kelkar who opened the discussion, mentioned about the background against which Pune International Centre, which has been developed as a “Think Tank” in Pune, thought of evolving a policy paper to focus on several ideas which could catalyse and yield positive, tangible and large development gains to the Country and promote rapid growth, equity and quality of life. Dr. Kelkar summarised the findings and recommendations of PIC succinctly and emphasized on de-bureaucratisation of the economy, the need to engage and involve the civil society with policy formulation and governance, promotion of decentralisation down to the local levels, drawing maximum advantage of the “democratic dividend” through imaginative and innovative skill-development programmes, leveraging technology for governance, management and production, and on a more gender-balanced social structure. All the other panelists, while endorsing this general approach, talked about specific areas and elaborated on them. The fascinating interactive session, which followed the panel discussion was adroitly steered and moderated by Prof. S L Rao who also contributed to the session with his astute comments and observations.
