Bangalore International Centre had arranged a Book Launch of the book "An Economist's Miscellany", authored by Prof. Kaushik Basu, Chief Economic Adviser, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, and C. Marks Professor, Department of Economics, Cornell University, on Wednesday, 20th July, 2011 at 6:30 pm. The event was chaired and moderated by Mr. V. Ravichandar, CMD, Feedback Business Consulting Pvt. Ltd.
Those who had come prepared to listen to a rather "heavy" discourse delivered in a pedantic manner were disappointed. In a scintillating talk laced with humour and sparkling wit, Prof. Kaushik Basu delighted the packed audience as he traversed the journey through his career path to describe the evolution of the book and the various topics covered in the 39 items in the contents- what Mr. V. Ravichandar, the Chair and the Moderator, so aptly described as the "39 steps". The broad sweep of Prof. Basu's talk, covering his hilarious experiences around the world, as well as issues like recession and global economic crises, foreign policy, art and aesthetics etc displayed in ample measure a fine cultivated mind, a sensitive outlook and an erudition uncluttered by high-sounding nothings. He also read out excerpts from his book which had the audience literally in splits.
Mr. V. Ravichandar in his introductory comments had highlighted the salient features of the book. He moderated the discussion with great skill. It was indeed an evening to remember.
