Held on Sunday, 26th November, 2017 at 6.00 PM

Bangalore Bangalore International Centre had organised Panel Discussion on “Adoption and society:
Everyone plays a part in celebrating the child” on Sunday, 26th November, 2017 at 6.00 PM. Panelists were Dr. Aloma Lobo, Ms. Sheila Ramaswamy and Ms. Anu Monga. Ms. Gayatri Abraham chaired and moderated the event.

Ms. Gayatri who moderated the discussion with sensitivity kick started the discussion by stating that adoption as a subject is not limited only to adoptive and birth families, but every professional who works with kids, every extended family member, every friend and neighbour impacts children and their perception of their adoptive status. One major area where there is an impact is in disclosing to the child the facts of their adoption.

The Panelists who were all remarkable well-informed discussed critical issues like why should children be informed that they were adopted? What is the importance of the language one ought to use around adoption? How does one handle it when anyone shares their adoptive status with us? Why is it important for you, even if you are a person who may not have anything to do with adoption, to equip yourself with the right information? Many questions raised by prospective and adoptive young parents were answered by the panelists with sensitivity, compassion and a positive outlook.

The event was well attended .The Q & A session was educative to all.
