Bangalore International Centre had arranged an Illustrated Talk on “Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose – The Patriot-Scientist and the Bengal Renaissance” on 4 th September, 2009 by Dr. D P Sengupta, Hon. Professor, National Institute of Advanced Studies. Dr. Sengupta delivered his lecture about Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose supported by a documentary film on J C Bose and a Power point presentation.
In a lucid analysis, Dr. Sengupta outlined as to how young Jagadish Chandra Bose was a product of Bengal Renaissance and how he also contributed to its efflorescence. At a time, when the British policy on Education in India was almost completely shaped by its imperialistic objective of keeping the Indians at a subservient and servile state and the study of science was not encouraged, Jagadish Chandra had the tenacity to pursue his study of science and scientific research which took him to the top echeleon in the in the World of science. He was also a patriot to the core and rejected offers to teach and carry on research abroad. The interactive session which followed was lively and brought out several other facets of Jagadish Chandra which are not well-known. The talk coincided with the 150 th anniversary of Jagadish Chandra.
